Willie Stewart Jr. was raised in Gary, Indiana and graduated from Gary Roosevelt High School in 1968. He is presently a member and Deacon of Gary 20th Century Baptist Church. Willie currently resides in Gary, Indiana and is married and the father of one step daughter and a proud grandfather of one granddaughter.
Willie became a member of the Lake County Sheriff's Department in 1970 as a Deputy Sheriff. In December of 1972 he was hired and sworn in as a Lake County Police Officer and graduated from the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy, Indiana University Bloomington, Indiana in May of 1973.
During Willie’s thirty three years of service with the Sheriff Department he worked in every division within the department, receiving several certificates of awards, training and commendations. He rose through the ranks and attained the permanent Merit rank of Lieutenant.
On January 1, 2011, Willie was given the opportunity to continue his law enforcement career and serve the citizens of Lake County by being appointed Deputy Chief of Police for the Lake County Police Department by Sheriff John Buncich.
On January 3, 2014 Willie was assigned as the Director of Lake County Sheriff’s Work Release Division.
