RECENT NEWS

3-17-2014  The Crown Point High School Stray Dogs Improv Group is preforming for the Lake County Animal Shelter.  The show will begin at 7:00 P.M. on March 28, 2014 in the CPHS auditorium.  There will be stand up comedy, audience participation Improv comedy, and original skit comedy all written and preformed by Crown Point High School Students.  Admission is a $5.00 donation and all proceeds will go to the Lake County Animal Shelter.  So come on out for some good laughs and help contribute to a wonderful cause!!!  Click for Flyer

2-13-2014  Sheriff John Buncich announced the Lake County Sheriff’s Department is providing two $500 college scholarships to local students.  The scholarships are open to all Lake County, Indiana high school graduating students who plan to major in criminal justice, forensics studies, pre-law or a related field.  The deadline to apply is March 15, 2013.  Click for more details

2-10-2014  The Lake County Animal and Adoption Center recently took in 2 dogs that were diagnosed with Heartworm.  The animals began treatment last week which is very costly and takes between two to three months to complete.  The Shelter is holding a raffle to help with the very expensive treatment costs.  The winning ticket holder‘s prize is a donated Insignia 8” tablet.  Click for more details

2-3-2014  Within the last week the Lake County Sheriff’s Department has received reports of a scam directed toward senior citizens. The male subject that calls the seniors on the telephone identifies himself as Dan Brown (or some other fictitious name) of the Lake County Sheriff’s Department.  He then advises the citizen that they have an active warrant for their arrest and that they’ve missed their court date in addition to stating the amount of their fine that’s due.  Click for more details

1-27-2014  Lake County Sheriff John Buncich announced today that the Indiana Sheriff’s Association will again be awarding college scholarships to qualified high school seniors or college students who are pursuing a degree in criminal justice studies.  There will be approximately 40 - $500 scholarships awarded to qualifying students throughout the state.  Click for more details  Click for application

Employment Opportunity - The Lake County Sheriff’s Department is currently recruiting volunteers for the Protective Order Assistance Program, which is designed to assist victims of domestic/family violence, sexual assault, and stalking.  Volunteers must pass a background check and also complete 5 hours of training.  Volunteers will be assigned to work a 4 hour shift in either the Crown Point or Gary Courthouse and select which courthouse they want to work at.  The volunteer will help victims complete the petition for the protective order, develop a safety plan and make them aware of resources available to assist them during this crucial period of their lives.  Click to download application
