MISSION STATEMENT

The purpose of the Lake County Corrections Division is to provide secure incarceration and detention for the following: felons, gross misdemeanants, misdemeanants, pre-trial detainees, juvenile non-status offenders, witnesses and others being detained in protective custody. The jail shall further strive to provide an atmosphere, which is safe where the rights of inmates are protected, as well as promote the humane care of inmates. It is the goal of the Lake County Jail to establish an environment of respect and dignity toward prisoners and to strive for staff sensitivity toward persons under their care.

It is the responsibility of the Lake County Sheriff to operate the county jail in a safe, efficient and cost effective manner. It is a core function of the jail to be fiscally prudent while providing continuous monitoring for inmate and staff safety.

The responsibilities for inmate care and Officer safety are tremendous.  Correctional Officers are responsible for facility security by overseeing individuals who have been arrested and are awaiting trial or who have been convicted of a criminal offense and sentenced to serve time in jail.  Officers maintain security and inmate accountability to prevent disturbances, assaults and escapes.

In order to facilitate this massive undertaking, the jail's management system is divided into four major divisions: Administrative, Operations, Security, and Personnel/Training. A Deputy Warden and the Assistant Warden head each of these divisions. All divisions are fully aware of the Lake County Jail's mission and vision.
