8-18-15  The Lake County Sheriff's Department applauds the fundraising efforts and donations of some local children.  Corinne and Nolan Ferrell raised $30.00 by having a lemonade stand in their front yard. Clay Clark, Maria Savvas, and Emily Dill had a neighborhood sale and were on street corners with signs to bring people in. They raised $145.00.  All the proceeds from their efforts were donated to the Lake County Sheriff's Animal Control and Adoption Center.  Click for Photo

Volunteer Opportunity - The Lake County Sheriff’s Department is currently recruiting volunteers for the Protective Order Assistance Program, which is designed to assist victims of domestic/family violence, sexual assault, and stalking.  Volunteers must pass a background check and also complete 5 hours of training.  Volunteers will be assigned to work a 4 hour shift in either the Crown Point or Gary Courthouse and select which courthouse they want to work at.  The volunteer will help victims complete the petition for the protective order, develop a safety plan and make them aware of resources available to assist them during this crucial period of their lives.  Click to download application
