1-26-15  Lake County Sheriff John Buncich announced today that the Indiana Sheriff’s’ Association will again be awarding college scholarships to qualified high school senior or college students who are pursuing a degree in criminal justice studies.  To qualify for one of these scholarships, the applicant must be an Indiana resident, be a current member of the association or a dependent child or grandchild of a current member of the association, attend an Indiana college or university, major in a law enforcement field and enroll as a full time student (12 hours).  Click for more details

Volunteer Opportunity - The Lake County Sheriff’s Department is currently recruiting volunteers for the Protective Order Assistance Program, which is designed to assist victims of domestic/family violence, sexual assault, and stalking.  Volunteers must pass a background check and also complete 5 hours of training.  Volunteers will be assigned to work a 4 hour shift in either the Crown Point or Gary Courthouse and select which courthouse they want to work at.  The volunteer will help victims complete the petition for the protective order, develop a safety plan and make them aware of resources available to assist them during this crucial period of their lives.  Click to download application
