Commander Anthony “Tony” Ramirez began his career in law enforcement on April 03, 1989 with the Lake County Sheriff Department. His duties have included, Patrol Division (FTO), Detective Bureau, with specific assignments in General Assignments, Lake County’s First Gang Unit, Tactical Unit, Civil Division, Jail Transportation, and Administrative Liaison to the Sheriff.
Commander Ramirez has held the rank of Patrolman, Detective, Sergeant and Deputy Commander. In June of 2016 Sheriff John Buncich appointed Commander Ramirez to the position of Civilian Staff Commander.
In addition, Tony is an active member of the Fraternal Order of Police, holding several offices including that of President of his local lodge the Chris Anton Lodge #125. Than in 1999 he ran for Northwest District Trustee of the State Lodge and was elected and still holds that position today.
Commander Ramirez is a graduate of Munster High School, attended Indiana University Northwest Campus and the Indiana law Enforcement Academy in Plainfield, Indiana along with numerous training schools over the years. Commander Ramirez has received several Commendations and Officer of the Year throughout his career. Commander Ramirez is also a recipient of the Purple Heart due to injuries he sustained during a tactical operation.
